About Us

Founded by a group of former slaves in 19th century, Third Ward's Emancipation Park was the first public park, white or black, in Texas. This year, UH MSA along with Nonprofit Leadership Alliance is joining forces with an organization called Friends of Emancipation Park to renovate the park to become a place that visitors to Houston want to see and experience. The Walkathon will help raise money, all of which will be donated to Friends of Emancipation Park. Come out and bring out your family and friends and enjoy the morning with a beautiful walk! We’ll have free food, costume contest, and entertainment!
